A Florida jury has awarded $65.1 million in damages, including $61 million in punitive damages, to the father of 12-year-old Jorge Cabrera, who was electrocuted one rainy night in a bus shelter. In addition to scientific evidence, attorneys for the defendant electrical supplier presented testimony about the family, including the sometimes-troubled relationship between the boy and his father. In Florida, the nature of a parent-child relationship is relevant in awarding damages for pain and suffering. | | | |
