Three adults and three children were thrown from their boat when it hit the south jetties at the mouth of the St. Johns river on Saturday.
Terry Loman was pinned between the jetties and the boat.
A good samaritan teamed up with the Coast Guard to help pull the family out of the water.
The Coast Guard says Loman had severe lacerations to his chest.

Man is in the hospital after a boating accident at Mayport Florida
